These tags are designed to be used once at port, for the cruise line to know where to take your luggage (a.k.a. your stateroom.) Most apply the tags the morning of embarkation before leaving for port from their hotel. This way the tags will not be damaged by the airline if one is flying.

Disney Cruise Line provides 2 luggage tags per person in the packet mailed to your home. As of October 2025 it is $250. This provides you the option to get a 10% discount on the market value of your next cruise. The embarkation of that cruise needs to be within 2 calendar years – to the day – when when the placeholder was purchased. If it is not used, you will be refunded it. There are some other perks such as on sailings seven nights or longer the deposit is less than normal.

If you need to cancel a sailing purchased with a placeholder, the placeholder is gone (and you receive a refund of what you paid based on the refund schedule and any insurance you have.) For this reason it is always better to ask to get a credit, as the placeholder remains intact. I do strongly advise reading the current rules on DisneyCruise.com or speaking with a DCL representative to confirm this.

Back to Question List

What is a guarantee rate?

A guarantee rate is often around 30% off the market rate; this is an average so it may be as low as 20% or high as 35%. You’ll see it as an option when picking a room type or may see it mentioned online as GTY. There are guarantee options for inside rooms (IGT), ocean view (OGT), or verandah (VGT). This is where you choose the room type but Disney Cruise Line will choose the specific room for you. On the original four ships, this often is not a big deal. On the Wish class ships, it depends on your risk level regarding distance from the elevators. On occasion, there are additional bonuses offered when booking guarantee rooms, such as an onboard credit.

When deciding to book guarantee, after you pick your ship and itinerary, it is recommended to look at what rooms are available so that you have an idea where your room may be assigned. If you have membership at Costco or other places where you can book through, it is worth checking those, too, as sometimes they show different available rooms than what shows on the Disney Cruise Line website. If you work with a travel agent or call into Disney Cruise Line, they also may see rooms that do not show to the average person online.

Your room will be assigned to you anywhere from a month to the day of embarkation. This may make things challenging if you are in a Fish Extender group. You will not receive a notice (email or push notification) that a room has been assigned to you; you will need to keep checking your reservation to see a room has been assigned to you and what that room number is.

Back to Question List

What is it like parking at Port Canaveral and what is the cost?

As of October 2025, Disney Cruise Line Parking at Port Canaveral is now $20 per day. One attains levels based on the number of cruises completed – regardless of the number of nights those cruises are.

The loyalty levels are:

Silver (completed 1 – 4 cruises)

Gold (completed 5 – 9 cruises, cruise #6 is first gold cruise)

Platinum (completed 10 – 25 cruises, cruise #11 is first platinum cruise)

Pearl (completed 25 cruises, cruise #26 is first pearl cruise.)

The level helps one to book before the public, book activities/excursions earlier than lower levels, “welcome back gifts,” and get special perks.
