We did a four night on the Disney Wish in September. As this was our first gold cruise. It was not our first Wish class ship, as we have previously cruised on the Treasure. I share this to show that we don't have many of the classic/original four experience to be super attached to the ship layout.
When the Wish came out, there were mixed reactions to it, mostly as it is a very different layout than the original ships. We like all three classes of ship. Our favorite ship so far is the Treasure, so we were naturally inclined to enjoy the Wish. There were inevitable comparisons between the Wish and Treasure, by us, as well as those we interacted with asking our thoughts - both by other guests and by crewmembers.
In our humble opinion, the Magic and Dream class ships are good for any length of itinerary, however the Wish class ships really need longer itineraries to fully appreciate. We really felt like we didn't have the time to try all the options available on the Wish on our four night cruise. I feel that, similar to the parks, one should really make a priority list of what one wishes to do when planning a Wish cruise.
The Wish exhibits all of the qualities that are hallmarks of the Disney Cruise Line - cleanliness, excellent service, good food and drinks, great entertainment.
At this time, only the Wish class ships perform the "kiss goodnight" at 5pm and 10pm. On the Wish the song is from Cinderella, "So This is Love." On pirate night, the song changes to Peter Pan's "A Pirate's Life." I don't think I heard a different kiss goodnight on pirate's night on the Treasure.
The Wish main dining offers 1923, World's of Marvel, and Arendelle. I'll share more about each in their own posts. The short version is that Daniel enjoyed all three; Jess liked World's of Marvel, felt 'meh' about 1923, and really did not like Arendelle - and not because she isn't a Frozen fan.
We found ourselves gravitating towards Tiana's Bayou Adventure, really enjoyed the Star Wars Hyperspace lounge, and getting our caffeine fix from Wishing Star Cafe. We also spent a lot of time in the shops, especially jewelry. A big shout out to Muyanah and Big Momma in the jewelry stores, Jayden in Tiana's, and Nuna in Hyperspace. While giving appreciation, we should also thank Kathy and Kevin and Ginny and Bob, who were our tablemates at dinner. Also, extra props to Kathy and Kevin and Aimee and Doug for testing out version 1.0 of our bar crawl.
We both have regrets of places we never got to visit or wanted to spend more time in. We had our muster drill inside Keg & Compass, and Daniel had a beer tasting there, but we wanted to spend more time there.
It's funny, we walked off the ship talking about how we are glad we "collected" the ship, but aren't sure we would go back. However, now a month out, I do want to go back to the Wish so that we could spend more time either in places we didn't get to or in places we wanted to spend more time in. It would be a blessing if some of the folks we enjoyed interacting with would be onboard still, although we know that would be a long shot.
Speaking of crewmembers shuffling between ships based on their contracts, I also need to give a shout out to Teddy. Teddy is the sommelier for Enchante. I met Teddy when I did my lunch at Enchante on the Treasure. He had moved to the Wish and remembered me! Considering the thousands of folk he must have seen between February and September, I found that thrilling.
Overall, I am so glad that Disney Cruise Line took some risks and changes with the Wish class of ships. I really feel that the Wish is truly the first pancake of the class, and while we prefer the Treasure, we enjoyed the Wish.
